Obverse description The national arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands are depicted centrally within a beaded inner circle, featuring the traditional Marshallese navigational stick chart, a frigate bird, a canoe sail, sun rays, and coconut palms, all arranged in the characteristic heraldic composition. The motto legend 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN' (Accomplishment Through Joint Effort) appears within the arms. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF MARSHALL ISLANDS' arcs around the upper field, while the date '2014' is inscribed in the lower field below the inner circle.

Additional information

The Marshall Islands has issued commemorative dollars under a 1988 enabling act that allows it to produce legal tender coinage despite having no central bank and using the US dollar for everyday transactions. Most of these issues never circulate — they are struck for the collector market and exported almost immediately. Gagarin's 1961 Vostok 1 flight lasted 108 minutes.
