| Obverse description | The complete Coat of Arms of Jamaica occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield decorated with alternating pineapples and vertical stripes, supported on the dexter side by a Taino woman holding fruit and on the sinister side by a Taino man bearing a spear. Above the shield, a helmet and mantling support a crest comprising a crocodile passant atop a royal helmet. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE in raised Latin lettering. The country name JAMAICA arcs along the upper legend, while the denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower legend; the CHI mint mark appears below the scroll. |

Jamaica's 1982 World Cup dollar was issued to coincide with the España '82 tournament — a competition Jamaica did not qualify for. The island's football federation had been pushing for greater FIFA visibility throughout the late 1970s, and this coin was partly a promotional gesture toward that ambition. Qualification for the World Cup wouldn't come until 1998.
