Obverse description The national coat of arms of Sierra Leone occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by two rampant lions, each flanked by a palm tree. The shield bears a diagonal partition with a torch and a lion passant above stylized mountains. A ribbon beneath the supporters carries the national motto in three segments: UNITY, FREEDOM, and JUSTICE. The legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 2009 appears in the lower field. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the coin.
