Reverse description Entirely engraved in green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a central horizontal cartouche bearing THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above ONE DOLLAR in bold block lettering, surrounded by a fine guilloche rosette. The four corners carry large numeral 1 counters interwoven with elaborate scrollwork, and ribbon-style banners inscribed ONE DOLLAR appear at the upper and lower margins, all set within a dense lathe-work border.
