| Obverse description | At center, the Liberian coat of arms appears within a chain of thirteen interlocking circles, each bearing the name of one of the original thirteen American colonies, in direct homage to the motif of the 1776 Continental Dollar. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA and the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE appear in the surrounding field. The overall design draws an explicit symbolic parallel between American independence and Liberian nationhood. |
