| Obverse description | Central field depicts a scene from the Quebecois legend 'Le cheval noir' (The Black Horse), showing a rearing horse pulling a sleigh with a figure struggling to restrain it, set against a stone building in the background. The design is signed 'N Thib. 82' in the lower field, attributing the artwork to engraver N. Thibodeau from 1982. A beaded border frames the entire design.
