Issued to mark the approach of the year 2000, this is a commemorative piece with no circulation mandate — produced for the collector market at a moment when "third millennium" theming was generating substantial mint revenue across Caribbean and Pacific issuing authorities alike. The Bahamas contracted a significant volume of such issues through the 1990s, many struck by the Royal Mint or the Franklin Mint on a licensed basis.
