Obverse description A boldly rendered lion passant guardant occupies the central field, depicted in high relief prowling across a rocky ground line with its tail raised, the mane rendered with fine naturalistic detail. The scene is engraved in the accomplished neoclassical style characteristic of Küchler's work at the Soho Mint. The circular legend arcs around the upper periphery reading SIERRA LEONE COMPANY, with AFRICA appearing in the lower field beneath the lion. The entire design is framed by a prominent border of raised beads, giving the piece a refined, medallic character.
