Obverse description The allegorical figure of Liberty seated facing left upon a rock, draped in flowing robes, holding a liberty pole surmounted by a Phrygian cap in her right hand and resting her left hand upon a heraldic shield bearing horizontal stripes. Thirteen six-pointed stars are arranged around the peripheral field, and the date appears in the exergue below the figure. The design was executed in the neoclassical style introduced by Christian Gobrecht.
