| Reverse description | The reverse faithfully replicates the aboral surface of a sand dollar (Echinodermata), with the entire flan textured to simulate the granular, tuberculate test of the living echinoderm. A highly detailed five-petalled petaloid pattern radiates from the central boss, each petal formed by two rows of precisely engraved respiratory pores rendered in fine parallel striae. The five oval lunule apertures of the sand dollar's natural form are incorporated as true cutouts through the flan. The field between the petals is covered in a closely observed, pebbled surface treatment evoking the natural calcite ossicles of the shell, creating a striking three-dimensional naturalistic effect. |
