Reverse description The reverse is struck in the form of a stylised sailboat, with the coin's shaped flan itself constituting the design. The hull is rendered in polished relief at the base, while two prominent triangular sails rise from a central mast, their surfaces finished in contrasting matte and polished gold. A detailed eight-pointed compass rose is depicted in low relief on the larger jib sail to the left. A pennant flies from the masthead at the apex of the flan, completing the nautical composition.

Additional information

Palau's dollar-denomination gold issues occupy an odd corner of the market — legal tender of a nation whose currency is actually the U.S. dollar, struck under licensing arrangements that have made the island republic one of the most prolific issuing authorities in the modern commemorative trade. The 0.5g format was popularized largely to offer a gold coin at accessible retail price points, a commercial decision dressed in sovereign packaging.
