Reverse description A soaring bald eagle in full flight is depicted in high relief at center, wings broadly outstretched and head turned to the left, rendered with meticulous feather detail by engraver Thomas D. Rogers. Thirteen five-pointed stars encircle the eagle in the field, referencing the original colonies. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination ONE DOLLAR curves along the lower border. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed in three lines to the left of the eagle in the field, and the designer's initials TDR appear in small letters at lower right.
