| Additional information |
Nauru, a Pacific island nation of roughly 10,000 people, has issued commemorative coinage through licensed arrangements since the 1990s — a revenue stream for a country whose phosphate deposits were largely exhausted by the 1980s. The Bank of Nauru's commemorative program targets collector markets with little connection to the island itself.
The Swedish royal wedding of April 2011, between Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling, generated a wave of licensed merchandise and commemorative issues from multiple issuers worldwide. Nauru's copper dollar has no official connection to the Swedish royal family or the Swedish state.
