Barbados has issued silver bullion dollars under the Pelican series for decades, but the 2022 strike is notable for arriving as the island nation completed its transition to a republic in November 2021 — the first Caribbean nation to remove the British monarch as head of state in over 50 years. The Central Bank continued issuing coins under its own authority rather than through the Royal Mint relationship that had governed earlier Barbadian coinage.
