Obverse description Portrait bust of Sacagawea facing right, depicted carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste swaddled in a blanket on her back, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The figure wears traditional Native American dress with decorative fringe visible at the shoulder, and a circular ear ornament.
