Chinese characters arcing along the upper portion of the field read '五千年的文明與發現' (Five Thousand Years of Civilisation and Discovery). To the upper left, the millennium year '2000' is inscribed, and to the right the legend MING DYNASTY / 1368 / 1644 identifies the commemorated dynasty.
