Obverse description The central field features the coat of arms of the Cayman Islands in high relief, depicting a shield charged with three five-pointed stars on a wavy base above a lion passant, surmounted by a pineapple crest. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto HE HATH FOUNDED IT UPON THE SEAS. The background is engraved with undulating wave patterns, and a raised rope-style inner border frames the design. The legend CAYMAN ISLANDS · 1 DOLLAR arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2023 positioned at the base.

Additional information

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority has issued a long-running series of bullion and collector coinage since the 1970s, but the island's monetary history is unusual in that the Cayman Islands dollar has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate of 1.20 USD since 1974 — a peg that has never been adjusted in fifty years, making it one of the most stable fixed exchange arrangements in the Caribbean.
