| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a color reproduction of the iconic Black Madonna of Czestochowa, a revered Byzantine-style icon of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. The Madonna is shown in a three-quarter facing pose, robed in richly decorated vestments rendered in warm amber and orange tones with elaborate golden ornamentation, characteristic of the Jasna Góra original. The Christ Child appears to the left of the Virgin in the traditional iconographic arrangement. This coin is the tenth in a series of 24 devoted to celebrated Marian icons. |
