Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative legal tender under licensing agreements since the 1990s, producing coins with essentially no domestic circulation — they are manufactured for the international collector market and bear Liberian authority in name only. The M1911 pistol, designed by John Browning and adopted by the U.S. military in 1911, remained the standard-issue sidearm through both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam before official replacement by the Beretta M9 in 1985.

The gold gilding is applied selectively after striking, a finishing technique common to this segment of the novelty bullion market.
