Obverse lettering JAMES K. POLK IN GOD WE TRUST 11th PRESIDENT 1845-1849
Reverse description The reverse features a dynamic depiction of the Statue of Liberty in three-quarter view, her right arm raised aloft holding a torch with flame, her left arm cradling a tablet, and her radiate crown clearly rendered with seven points. The figure fills the right portion of the field, while the denomination $1 appears to the left within a raised inner border. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves around the full periphery, with the engraver's initials DE visible at lower right. The design, common to the Presidential Dollar series, was executed by Don Everhart in a bold sculptural style.
