| Obverse description | The central field bears the full coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship at sea beneath a palm tree and a rising sun, flanked by a dove above crossed implements, all within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The date 1997 is divided to either side of the arms, with the mintmark PM incorporated. The circumferential legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs around the upper border, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR appears in the lower exergual area. The design is rendered in bold relief with a reeded edge visible at the rim. |
