Reverse description Central design features a common loon (Gavia immer) in a naturalistic pose, as originally engraved by Robert-Ralph Carmichael for the 1987 loonie series. A latent image security feature is incorporated above the bird, alternating between the numeral "1" and the maple leaf motif depending on the viewing angle. The country name arcs along the upper periphery of the field, while the denomination is inscribed along the lower periphery. The date of issue appears within the reverse legend.
