The NRL commemorative dollar series, launched by the Royal Australian Mint to mark the centenary seasons of various clubs, has drawn consistent criticism from collectors for its rapid proliferation — with team-specific releases now numbering in the dozens across multiple years. Wests Tigers, formed from the 2000 merger of Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers, remains one of the NRL's more commercially marketed clubs despite a prolonged absence from finals football.
