Part of the AFL Premiership series issued by the Royal Australian Mint, this dollar honours the Brisbane Lions — a club formed from the 1996 merger of the Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Lions, the latter being one of the founding clubs of the VFL in 1897. The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, by sculptor Jody Clark, appears here in what became one of its final years of use before the Queen's death in September 2022 necessitated a transition to Charles III effigy coinage.
