Additional information

The AFL Premiership dollar is part of the Royal Australian Mint's long-running program of circulating commemoratives tied to Australian sporting culture. The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II — the Jody Clark effigy adopted by Australian coinage from 2019 — appears here on one of the final issues bearing her likeness before the transition to Charles III following her death in September 2022. Coins dated 2023 with her portrait were therefore already a transitional curiosity before they left the mint.
