Palau has issued an unusually large body of collector-oriented dollar coinage since the late 1990s, much of it themed around marine biology and Pacific biodiversity. The Hebomoia leucippe — a large pierid butterfly found across Southeast Asia and into the Pacific — fits that pattern. These issues were struck for the numismatic market, not circulation; Palau's actual transactional economy runs on the US dollar.
