Additional information

Palau's micro-gold program, launched in the mid-2000s, was among the first to exploit collector demand for legal-tender gold coins at sub-gram weights — a format made commercially viable only by modern blanking technology capable of producing consistent 11mm planchets at scale. The Hagia Sophia issue appeared the same year UNESCO was actively pressuring Turkey over structural conservation concerns at the site.
