Grammatophyllum speciosum, the giant orchid and the largest orchid species on Earth, was declared Singapore's national flower candidate before Vanda Miss Joaquim ultimately won that designation in 1981. This coin belongs to the Singapore Mint's ongoing Orchid series, which has drawn sustained collector interest in Southeast Asian markets since the program's inception — partly because the botanical subjects are scientifically precise rather than decorative approximations.
KM#422 is a relatively low-mintage silver issue in the series, with distribution weighted heavily toward regional buyers.
