Reverse description A colorized depiction of a flying fish (Exocoetidae), the national symbol of Barbados, is prominently rendered in shades of blue and white at center, shown in profile leaping above stylized ocean waves with its distinctive elongated pectoral fins fully extended. Additional flying fish in incuse relief appear in the upper field above the colorized vignette. The denomination legend 'ONE DOLLAR' is inscribed in raised letters along the lower periphery, separated by a beaded inner border.

Barbados decimalized its currency in 1973, fixing the Barbadian dollar at exactly two to one against the US dollar — a peg that has held without interruption for over fifty years, one of the longest-standing fixed exchange rates in the Caribbean.
