| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Liberty with long, unbound flowing hair cascading over the shoulder, rendered in the neoclassical style engraved by Robert Scot. The legend LIBERTY arcs across the upper field, and the date 1794 appears in the lower exergue. The coin is struck on a large copper planchet with a dentilated border encircling the entire design. The portrait is executed in low relief characteristic of early American coinage, reflecting the nascent capabilities of the Philadelphia Mint. |
