Obverse description The national coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, featuring a heraldic shield divided by a diagonal cross and charged with three ships, supported by an Ibis on the dexter side and a Scarlet Macaw on the sinister side, with a steel helm and a coconut palm crest above. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto in the legend. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1979 appears in the lower field beneath the arms.
