Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was among the most prolific — and commercially cynical — of any sovereign issuer of the period. These pieces were produced almost entirely for the novelty collector market, with no meaningful circulation, and were licensed to foreign distributors who bundled them into themed sets. The "European Currency" series capitalized on the 2002 euro introduction, issuing face-value denominations in Liberian dollars while depicting foreign monetary instruments Liberia had no hand in creating.
The legal tender status is nominal at best.
