Reverse description A fully colorized rooster stands prominently in the center field, rendered in vivid red, orange, teal, and green plumage with naturalistic detail, crowing toward the right. Behind the rooster, a rising sun with radiating rays emerges on the horizon against a stylized mountain landscape engraved in the silver field. To the right, engraved bamboo stalks and foliage frame the composition, while stylized clouds appear in the upper left. Chinese characters reading 'rooster' are inscribed vertically along the lower left, and the Perth Mint's P mintmark appears in the upper left corner. The denomination and fineness legend 1oz 9999 SILVER is inscribed along the lower right border.

Additional information

Perth Mint's annual Lunar Series II rooster issue was part of a twelve-year program launched in 2008, completing the full zodiac cycle in 2019. The series built a devoted following among Asian collectors, particularly in China and Hong Kong, where secondary market premiums on early low-mintage dates from the run pushed prices well above face value within months of release. The 2017 rooster falls mid-series, where mintages were higher than the opening years but demand had stabilized into a reliable collector base rather than speculative frenzy.

The .9999 fineness — four nines — was a deliberate commercial distinction from the Royal Canadian Mint's .9999 Maple Leaf program, positioning Perth as a direct competitor in the fine silver bullion space.
