| Additional information |
Tokelau has no mint of its own and no independent monetary policy — its coins are legal tender in name only, struck under contract (typically by the New Zealand Mint) for the international collector market. The territory itself, three coral atolls with a combined land area under 12 square kilometres and a population that has never exceeded 1,500, has never operated a functioning coin economy.
This piece belongs to the lunar series issued under Tokelau's name from the early 2010s onward, capitalizing on collector demand for .999 silver lunar issues that the major sovereign mints — Perth, Royal Canadian — had already proven lucrative.
