Additional information

Issued to mark the 1983 World University Games held in Edmonton, this dollar was struck in two finishes — prooflike and specimen — accounting for the two Charlton references. The Games themselves were a significant moment for Canadian amateur sport infrastructure, accelerating development of facilities that would later serve the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Mintage was modest by commemorative standards of the period, split across both finish types rather than concentrated in a single issue.
