Issued to mark the 1983 World University Games held in Edmonton, this dollar was struck in two finishes — prooflike and specimen — accounting for the two Charlton references. The Games themselves were a significant moment for Canadian amateur sport infrastructure, accelerating development of facilities that would later serve the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
