| Obverse description | The obverse presents an ornate Fabergé-inspired oval composition in high relief. At center-top, the diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, faces right within an elaborate rococo cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage. The legend ELIZABETH II appears beneath the portrait, with NIUE ISLAND arcing along the upper field and the denomination 1 DOLLAR reading vertically on the left. The date 2012 is inscribed vertically on the right, and the silver fineness mark Ag 925 appears at the base. The lower portion of the field features a decorative motif of two crossed flags flanking a floral basket, all rendered in the ornamental style of Imperial Russian decorative arts. |
