Reverse description The reverse depicts a page from a pre-revolutionary Russian illustrated alphabet primer, rendered in color and relief. At upper left, a color-printed illuminated panel features a fantastical beast in the style of Old Russian manuscript decoration. To the right, various historical Cyrillic letterforms for the letter Веди (В) are displayed in Old Church Slavonic scripts. At center, a fully colored figure of a medieval Russian warrior (витязь) in chainmail and helmet is shown standing, holding a pole-arm and sword. Flanking the warrior are two Cyrillic word-and-image pairs: ведро (a bucket, shown in silver relief) at left-center and ворона (a crow, shown in silver relief at lower left). An ornate Slavic interlace border frames the composition, and the word Витязь appears in stylized Cyrillic script at lower center.
