Additional information

The USS Constitution — launched in 1797 and still a commissioned U.S. Navy vessel — earned its "Old Ironsides" nickname during the War of 1812 after British shot was observed bouncing off its thick white oak hull. Tuvalu's bullion series has long used American naval and maritime subjects as commercial draws for the U.S. collector market, a deliberate licensing strategy with little connection to Tuvaluan history. KM#189 is one of several ship-themed issues from this run.
