Issued under license from CBS Consumer Products, this piece is part of Perth Mint's ongoing Star Trek series, which launched in 2015 to coincide with renewed franchise interest ahead of the franchise's 50th anniversary the following year. The NCC-1701-D — the Galaxy-class vessel from The Next Generation — was chosen as the series opener, almost certainly for commercial rather than chronological reasons.
KM# 207 is a low-mintage bullion-adjacent issue: legal tender in Tuvalu, not Australia, despite the Perth Mint's involvement.
