Issued under Australia's legal tender framework, which allows the Perth Mint to produce commemorative coinage for a range of Pacific island territories, this piece is technically currency of Tuvalu — a arrangement Perth has used since the 1990s to sidestep domestic restrictions on non-circulating legal tender. The Enterprise license was secured through CBS Consumer Products, whose approval process for officially sanctioned Trek merchandise has historically been exacting enough that several competing mint proposals for the same subject were rejected before this one cleared.
Part of a broader Star Trek starships series. Each release in the run was mintage-limited to 50,000 pieces worldwide.
