| Obverse description | Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, his initials IRB appearing below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim and TOKELAU 2012 along the upper right rim, with the denomination ONE DOLLAR inscribed in the field to either side of the portrait. The Tokelau coat of arms, depicting the national flag with the Southern Cross and a stylised canoe sail, appears in relief within a rectangular frame in the lower field.
