Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by engraver Susan Taylor, depicting a mature, bare-headed portrait of the Queen facing right, wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above the effigy, with CANADA and the denomination 1 DOLLAR positioned in the lower field. The portrait, rendered in high relief, presents the Queen at approximately 77 years of age in a refined and dignified manner consistent with Royal Canadian Mint standards of the period.
