| Obverse description | The obverse features the third-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael David Maklouf, facing right, accompanied by scenes derived from Albrecht Dürer's woodcut series depicting St. John kneeling before Christ and the twenty-four elders. The royal effigy occupies a prominent position within the design field, integrated with the apocalyptic imagery. The legend reads ELIZABETH II 2012 NIUE ISLAND ONE DOLLAR distributed around the design. |

Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand Mint has produced hundreds of licensed pop-culture and religious themed issues since the 1990s, most struck for the collector market with no realistic prospect of circulation. This piece is one of them — a bullion-adjacent souvenir whose legal tender status under Niuean law is nominal at best, given that Niue itself uses the New Zealand dollar in daily commerce.
