| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring with a draped neckline. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR, the issuer TUVALU, and the date 2006 are arranged around the lower periphery. The engraver's initials RDM appear in the field below the portrait truncation. The entire surface is gold-plated, giving the obverse a uniform warm golden appearance. |

Issued as part of Perth Mint's long-running licensed series commemorating the Supermarine Spitfire, this coin appeared during a period when the mint was aggressively expanding its colored and plated collector issues into the aviation and military nostalgia market. The Spitfire's association with Australia is genuine — RAAF squadrons flew Spitfires extensively in both the European theater and, critically, in the defense of Darwin against Japanese raids from 1943 onward.
KM#225 is a collector piece with no circulation intent. Gold-plated .999 silver one-dollar issues of this type were produced in the tens of thousands, which the mintage figures confirm plainly.
