Additional information

Sir Walter Raleigh's connection to the Eastern Caribbean is genuine — he led expeditions to Guiana in 1595 and 1617, the second of which ended in his return to England and execution under a reinstated death warrant James I had held in reserve since 1603. The ECCB has issued a long series of silver-plated commemoratives pairing Elizabeth II with historical figures of Atlantic exploration and colonial history, this being one of the later entries. Silver-plated copper issues of this type see essentially no circulation; they move directly from packaging to collections.
