Additional information

Niue's dollar coinage exists almost entirely as a vehicle for the New Zealand Mint's bullion and collector programs — the island's GDP couldn't sustain a domestic silver coinage program, and the face values are notional against the New Zealand dollar Niue actually uses. The KM#922 Saint George issue sits in a crowded field of similar licensed products from this period, when Niue was issuing hundreds of themed collector dollars annually under agreements with private minting operations.

The Saint George and the Dragon motif used here derives from Benedetto Pistrucci's 1817 design, still the property of the Royal Mint and licensed separately for each use.
