Additional information

Part of a long-running series of small-format 14-karat gold issues produced for the Solomon Islands by the British Royal Mint and various private minting houses, these pieces circulate almost exclusively in the collector market — the face value is purely nominal against the gold content. The redback spider series exploited growing demand from Asian collector markets for miniature gold coins in the late 2010s.

The redback itself is native to Australia, not the Solomon Islands, which says something about the geographic liberties these bullion-adjacent collector programs routinely take with their subject matter.
