Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, after the effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left rim, 1 DOLLAR across the upper field, and COOK ISLANDS along the right rim. The date 2007 appears in the lower exergue. The gold-plated finish gives the portrait a warm, lustrous appearance against the mirror-like field.

Additional information

Issued to mark the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 2007 — sixty years after their marriage at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947 — this is one of dozens of commemorative pieces Cook Islands produced under licensing arrangements that have little connection to the territory itself. The gold plating over copper-nickel keeps production costs low while allowing a retail premium on the anniversary theme.
