| Obverse description | The obverse features a raised central disc bearing an eight-pointed compass star in relief, set within a concave field framed by two concentric beaded borders. A small effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in right-facing profile appears at the top of the coin between the two legend arcs. These were never intended as spending money — the gold plating alone made hoarding economically rational, even if the underlying metal did not.
