The Royal Canadian Mint's restrike of the classic American Peace Dollar design required a licensing arrangement that itself became a minor bureaucratic curiosity — Canada producing a coin whose imagery originated from a 1921 U.S. design competition won by Anthony de Francisci. The original was never a Canadian coin in any historical sense; this issue exists purely as a bullion collectible capitalizing on the design's enduring commercial appeal.
Struck in .9999 fine silver rather than the 90% alloy of the genuine Peace Dollar series, the metallurgical upgrade is the most technically notable distinction from its American inspiration.
